Aleksandra & Sang's Wedding
Where did you meet?
We grew up together and went to the same public school. Sang was one class above me and we've been really good friends ever since. In our mid-20s, our friendship blossomed into a more romantic relationship, and we've been a couple ever since, then engaged, and now husband and wife.
How did he propose to you? He proposed to me on my mother's birthday - April 26, 2020. He had asked my father for permission, and then he got down on one knee in my parents' allotment garden house. It was incredibly touching and down-to-earth, just like us.
Which Karim Design dress did you choose and how did you know it was the right wedding dress?
Well, I didn't choose an existing design. I went my own way and designed my own dress. I opted for a classic white dress that I wanted to be both sexy and decent. So, it ended up being long-sleeved, with extra-long sleeves, an open back, and a push-up bust.
Describe your wedding day look
My wedding look was very elegant and stylish. It was also very down-to-earth with a 'casual' updo and a more powerful makeup that helped create depth and power. My earrings were my wedding gift, a set of pearl earrings with a diamond underneath, and my shoes were the classic bridal shoes from Manolo Blahnik.
How did you feel in your dress on your wedding day?
I felt so beautiful, unique, and very comfortable in both my dress and my body. I think we created a dress that perfectly highlighted everything I wanted, and that made me feel very natural in my dress.
Where did you get married? Tell us about the location, style, and atmosphere of your wedding day.
We got married at Langelinie Pavillion, near the Little Mermaid. In my opinion, they have the best atmosphere and the most beautiful venues in Copenhagen. They made it possible for us to create a personal celebration with both our cultures, which we wanted to be prominent on the day.
I was responsible for all the wedding setup myself – from flowers, to tapas platters, to side snacks, the cake table, and table settings. Since we got married in mid-September, we thought it would be beautiful to use the lovely late summer colors. We invited them in and created a delightful color universe that extended from our invitations to our thank you cards. We started the day separately and only saw each other the moment my father walked me down the white runner we had arranged ourselves. We had little flower children throwing white roses to start. At the end, Sang waited with his brother and best man, and on the other side, my best friend waited. Behind them, with a sea view, we had placed many candles and a huge floral arch where we were to be married.
From the moment we said "I do" and signed the papers, the DJ cranked up the music, and the party continued for the rest of the evening. It wasn't a classic Danish wedding; the atmosphere was more energetic, if you can say that. There was dancing and partying between meals, and the music was only turned down for the few fantastic speeches.
What was the most challenging aspect of the planning?
The most challenging part was definitely creating a cohesive theme. It was difficult to translate everything you imagine from your head to paper and then into reality. But with the right people, and when it's created with love, anything is possible. We truly created the most magical day we could ever have dreamed of, surrounded by people who are a part of us and who will be a part of our entire future.
What made your day extra special?
What made my day extra special was definitely feeling the immense love my husband and I could spread together with the people around us. Seeing how two cultures and different ethnic backgrounds could create something bigger and more beautiful in this world was truly touching and something I found inspiring for others too. Witnessing 22 years of friendship and blossoming love suddenly unfold into reality – dancing, kissing, hugging, and laughter – is something that will forever fill my heart with happiness.
The funniest moment of the day was?
When our friends lifted us both in the air and my husband's side of the family threw dollar bills. It was very cultural and really fun. All our guests were gathered around us, clapping and dancing. It was fantastic.
When my girls played a song we had recorded about my husband and me for my bachelorette party. I sing terribly, so it was really funny to hear myself so loud like that and see my husband's reaction.
Where did you go for your honeymoon?
We traveled for a week to Turkey to a luxury spa resort in Bodrum.
Any final advice or wise words you can share with Karim Design's future brides?
Go with your gut feeling.
