Farah & Christian

Where did you meet each other?

We met for the first time through a mutual friend, who actually ended up being our photographer for the wedding. A few years later, we met again in the city, where we exchanged phone numbers and then we started seeing each other.

How did he propose to you?

Christian proposed to me on our vacation to Bali. He had planned it and arranged it from home. He found a resort in Ubud, which is located in a fantastic high position in a forest, where he had chosen their most romantic and private bamboo hut with the most beautiful view. In the hut, a dinner was set up for us, and there were rose petals and candles everywhere. He had even arranged to borrow a speaker from them so we could listen to music during dinner. It was absolutely perfect! I had not seen it coming at all. Leading up to it, he had said that I should be ready at a certain time because we would be picked up by a driver, and he wouldn't say more. I immediately thought that he had probably "just" found a specific place for us to go and eat, which he had arranged with the hotel. So I was very surprised when we arrived and a waiter led us to the beautiful bamboo hut. When we were alone, he said the sweetest things to me, that he loves me and wants to be with me forever. Then he got down on one knee and proposed. It couldn't have been better – the place, the dinner, the wine, the music, the tropical weather. It was like a dream. The rest of the vacation felt like a honeymoon!

Which Karim Design dress did you choose and how did you know it was the right wedding dress?

I chose the dress Dhar. It was one of the first dresses I tried on, and I remember when I tried it on, I was very unsure about what I thought of it. My mother, mother-in-law, sister, and sisters-in-law, on the other hand, had no doubts. They thought it fit me perfectly, but I wasn't completely convinced. The dress is indeed mermaid-shaped and fits very tightly. I had actually told myself that it wasn't the type of dress I wanted. After trying on over 10 dresses, I went home and looked at the pictures and thought about it. The more I looked at the picture of me in the Dhar dress, the more I liked it. Therefore, I decided to book another appointment and try the dress again. This time I had no doubt that it should be the one! Hesam was a fantastic help and he inspired me on how I could make it absolutely perfect for me. It was tailored, and we agreed to close it at the neck, so the back was open in a diamond shape. We made the sleeves a bit shorter, so they became three-quarter length. It turned out absolutely perfect!

Describe your wedding day look ...

The dress was mermaid-shaped and cream-colored with lace. The shoes were nude and had a thick heel. My hair was styled up, as I thought it suited the veil best. For dinner, I took off the veil and loosened my hair a bit, so it was half down and half up. The makeup was very simple and primarily in nude colors, as I thought the dress should have all the attention. I wore long earrings that were borrowed from my mother and otherwise no jewelry, apart from my engagement ring and later my wedding ring.

How did you feel in your dress on your wedding day?

I felt very beautiful and comfortable. The dress was just me and showed my curves in a completely different way than I was used to. Can you believe that at first I was unsure if it should be the one!

Where did you get married? Tell us about where it took place, the style, the atmosphere on your wedding day.

We were married in Gentofte Church, the reception was held at Christian's parents' place in Charlottenlund, and dinner and the party were held in the Barn at Sonnerupsgaard Manor.

Gentofte Church is a classic, intimate church that has been the church in Christian's family for several generations, so being married there meant a lot to his side of the family.

We chose Sonnerupgaard Gods for the party for two reasons: We wanted to find a place where we could plan everything ourselves. We quickly agreed that we did not want to choose a package solution because it would not fit the wedding we wanted. And we fell in love with the large barn right away and could already see so many possibilities to create a fantastic party. We had created the perfect, idyllic setting for a late summer wedding just as we wished.

What was the most challenging part of the planning?

The most challenging part of the planning was making the guest list. It took forever to create because we felt we had to make both our families happy and be satisfied ourselves. There were times when we almost forgot to look forward to the wedding, but fortunately, we found a solution to that in the end.

What made your day extra special?

Definitely the guests and those who had a "role" at the wedding. We were both so overwhelmed that everyone did everything to make the day as perfect for us as possible. Everyone was happy, festive, and in a fantastic mood all day long. Without them, the day would not have been the same at all.

The funniest moment of the day was??

We had an absolutely fantastic DJ who knew how to create a party! He was good at bringing two different cultures together through music and dance. The funniest moment was when the dance floor was already packed between the main course and dessert. A song was played for Dabke, which is a kind of Arabic folk dance, that got everyone up from their seats and out on the dance floor! Even those who never dance at parties danced through. The only unfortunate thing is that we don’t have pictures or video of it because everyone was dancing along.

Where did the honeymoon go?

The honeymoon went to the Maldives, which was a wedding gift from my parents. We stayed in a water villa and had access to a private beach, pool, and restaurant. There were almost no people, so it was a place just for us to relax and just be together after some hectic planning months without much sleep or time for each other. I would, by the way, relive the hectic time 10 times again to experience that day, so it was all worth it!

Any last advice or wise words you can share with Karim Design's upcoming brides?

Everyone tells you this all the time, but really ENJOY it all! Even though it can sometimes feel like a burden and you just want to cancel everything because the planning can be so tough, it is ALL worth it when you reach the day, which flies by. You want to make everyone happy and satisfied, but remember that it is your day and you are the ones who decide. The people who should be happy and satisfied are only you, and family and friends will be when you are. The most important thing is that you get the wedding you want, and you should not end up regretting anything you either chose to do or did not do in the end.
