Gry & Daniel's Wedding
How did you two meet?
We met in our sons' kindergarten in Valby. Our sons (from previous relationships) became best friends from the age of 3. They had many playdates and played soccer together. So Daniel and I would drink coffee when the boys were picked up and enjoyed parent-teacher meetings and kindergarten parties. We fell in love, and when the boys started in their separate schools, we missed seeing each other โ and we became a couple ๐
How did he propose to you?
I think it was very impulsive. We had watched a movie a few weeks earlier where the protagonist proposed to his girlfriend without any grand show or anything. He was probably inspired by that. "Why wait and set everything up when you know it's right โ and it's in the small 'grey' moments of everyday life that I love you the most," he said.
So, one evening in October, after we had a nice dinner at Restaurant Gro, he made a ring out of a flower petal and got down on one knee while I was in the bathroom with a toothbrush in my mouth. He had lit candles throughout the rest of the apartment.
Which Karim Design dress did you choose and how did you know it was the right wedding dress?
I had a clear idea of the dress I wanted. Until I tried it on. I had just given birth to a baby, so I didn't feel (a tight) dress fit as I wanted. Therefore, I found one of my favorite dresses/skirts at home in my closet and asked Hesam to design something similar. That became the inspiration for my wedding dress. We took my favorite skirt as a starting point and added lace and an open back, which I had always dreamed of and knew Daniel would love.

Describe your wedding day look ...
It was very important for me not to feel overdressed or over-made-up. I wanted to be natural without being boring. It was a difficult balance. We got married in nature, so the look had to fit that too. The wedding day look was bohemian. I wore very high elegant stilettos, my hair in a loose bun, and my 'everyday makeup'. Of course, I had beautiful polished nails on both my hands and feet. I had received a pair of VERY expensive earrings from my parents from Marianne Dylong for the day, which perfectly matched the look.
How did you feel in your dress on your wedding day?
Honestly, I felt a little overdressed when I first put it on. But that feeling immediately disappeared when I arrived at the party venue. I felt like a princess ๐ I had another (shorter) dress for after the bridal waltz, which I could dance in more easily. It turned out to be a good idea, as it was quite a dance party ๐.
Where did you get married? Tell us about the location, the style, and the atmosphere of your wedding day.
We got married at Herthadalen in Lejre. We searched for a long time for the perfect place. I am not religious, so it was important for me that we could get married outdoors in nature and not in a church. Herthadalen is a wonderful restaurant located deep in nature and has its own lake with a small white swimming jetty where it's possible to get married. The mayor of Lejre also makes a great effort to go out into nature to marry couples. It's not everywhere that it's so straightforward. Daniel and I have a summer house in Egebjerg, and we love nature and everything natural about it. It was important for us that the wedding reflected this โ and above all that GOOD food and wine were served. At Herthadalen, chickens roam freely, and there are berry bushes, apple trees, and herbs in the front garden. The style was relaxed yet exclusive at the same time.
We had Bryan Rice (a good friend) sing OUR song live as I walked through the garden with my father and son towards Daniel, and we had Camille Jones sing Jazz at the outdoor reception.

What was the most challenging part of the planning?
Everything actually went relatively smoothly. The most difficult part was probably finding childcare and pick-up for our children. We wanted all our children (we have four together) to be at the wedding, but the two youngest shouldn't stay longer than the reception. But all our loved ones, grandparents, etc., were at the party, so who would look after them? The youngest was only 9 months old at the time and had never slept anywhere else.
What made your day extra special?
The whole day was completely special. Everything was perfect. And I wish I could relive it again and again. But the most special thing was probably feeling all the love โ also from others.
The funniest moment of the day was??
There were truly many funny moments. And the coolest thing was probably that ALL our guests went wild on the dance floor. But Daniel's 12-year-old nephew gave the most beautiful speech, which was truly, truly funny.

Where did you go for your honeymoon?
I had lived in Genoa, Italy, for many years. And the city and country are a big part of me. Daniel had never been there. So we took a week to Genoa with our 4 children. It might have been preferable to go as just the two of us, but it was also very symbolic to be there all together. We are a big family, after all. That's what we married into. We then received a stay at Ystad Salsรธbad as a wedding gift, so we took a little extra honeymoon alone a while later โ and that was also wonderful.
Any last advice or words of wisdom you can share with Karim Design's future brides?
Just relax. Everything will be perfect on the day. And go for a dress you feel comfortable in โ it means the world on the day.
