Ida & Anders' wedding

Where did you meet each other?

We got to know each other at work, but only became a couple after Anders changed jobs. I was the one who fell in love with Anders while we were working together, but he had a girlfriend, so it was a bit uphill for me. But when he changed jobs, I chose to come clean and tell him that I thought he should call me if he became single one day... He did, and we have been together ever since.

How did he propose to you?

He proposed to me on my birthday, a cold December day at Dragsholm Castle. He got down on one knee at a lookout point on the castle, but quickly got back up again because there was snow and slush :D Even though I had waited a long time (2 kids and a house later), I was very surprised that it was "NOW". Afterwards, we went for a long walk, had drinks, and quickly agreed that we wanted to execute quickly and have a summer wedding, meaning we had less than 6 months from proposal to wedding (and yes, it can definitely be done!)

Which Karim Design dress did you choose and how did you know it was the right wedding dress?

I started with Silvana, but I redesigned it into a new look. I wanted to have some special sleeves that were loose from the wedding dress, so the dress needed to have a heart-shaped off-shoulder cut, so the sleeves aligned with the dress's cut. Karim Design was completely on board with the idea and was so good in the process. I also wanted the veil to be personal and match the dress, so Karim Design hand-sewed the same lace as the dress's lace onto my veil. It looked absolutely magical!

I generally felt that I could have gone with many different looks – there are so infinitely many beautiful wedding dresses. But I had to choose one, and I felt that this dress was the most right and suited my personal style best, so it ended up being that one.

Describe your wedding day look...

Romantic, dreamy, and very natural. I had my hair completely loose, as I usually do, and very light makeup. In return, the dress and veil were allowed to take center stage. I wanted to be very "bride-like," so it wasn't a simple look – there were so many beautiful details on the dress, the sleeves, and the veil, I loved it. Several people said during the preparations that it was smart that I could take off the sleeves and veil during the evening, but it was so beautiful that I had it all on until the bridal waltz, where I only took off the veil.

How did you feel in your dress on your wedding day?

Absolutely fantastic and very beautiful😊 It was very hot the day we got married, so I was glad that I had chosen a breezy model under the arms, so I didn't have to worry about sweating in the dress.

Where did you get married? Tell us about where it took place, the style, the atmosphere on your wedding day.

We had a very local wedding close to where we live, and where I grew up. It was important for us to feel that we had a personal connection to the place where we got married. We were married in Messiaskirken, where I also attended kindergarten. We personally selected all the music and hymns for our ceremony, as this part of the day meant a lot to us. There was a singer and a violist to sing and play for us. It was an incredibly beautiful and touching moment for both of us (and apparently also for our guests).

Afterwards, we held a pop-up reception right outside the church with 350 mini cakes and cold champagne.

In the evening, we held dinner and a party at Peter Lieps Hus in Dyrehaven. The theme was a forest fairy tale wedding, where we had our florist bring the forest into the room with beech branches along the walls and various greens and wildflowers all the way down the long tables. We emphasized a relaxed atmosphere with long tables, and that our guests should be pampered with really delicious wine and food.

We have a thing for wigs at all our parties, so our wedding also ended with everyone wearing wigs and different costumes on the dance floor. It was really fun.

What was the most challenging part of the planning?

We like to throw parties, so we had fun with the planning. The most challenging part has been that we have two small children, so we only had time in the evenings to plan.

What made your day extra special?

Honestly, the day is much bigger than you dream of and than you can explain. We were in a huge state of bliss all day, and we experienced it as an injection of love not only for each other but for all our relationships with friends and family. It felt like a total sensory experience from something very touching, solemn, and almost existential to ending with group dancing, sausages, and wigs.

The funniest moment of the day was??

There were many funny moments, but the funniest (for everyone but me) was probably when my speech to Anders was unintentionally sabotaged because I accidentally said something that could be misunderstood as something very vulgar, and then everyone burst out laughing, and everything I said from there couldn’t be taken seriously :D But I skipped a bit in the speech and got through it anyway haha…

Where did the honeymoon go?

We took 3 days to Stockholm and to a beach club just outside Stockholm without our children. It was really nice to have time alone together and digest all the impressions from the day. After that, we spent 3 weeks together as a family in Denmark in a summer house by Sejerøbugten and on Als in Southern Jutland.

Any last advice or wise words you can share with Karim Design's upcoming brides?

Remember that the bar MUST always be placed next to the dance floor 😉 And have wine standing on the tables, even though the waiters are pouring, so guests can pour themselves during speeches, etc. That said, my best "advice" is to remember that there will always be things that don’t go according to plan or turn out differently than you thought – no weddings can live up to perfection, but your wedding will still be perfect because it is yours.
