Nikoline & Mathias' wedding

Where did you meet each other?
We met each other at university. He was a year above me, confident and always good for a quick remark. I was young and cautious, but still managed to get noticed. However, it was only later when we were matched up as tutor partners that a little seed began to sprout. A little seed that grew into an all-encompassing love. Since then, we have not looked back.
How did he propose to you?
At that time, we lived in London, but spent a large part of the summer in a summer house in Denmark. Mathias was between jobs, I worked from home – like everyone else due to covid. When my vacation started, we booked (what I thought was) a spontaneous trip to Skagen. We had breakfast and drove towards the tip, and in the middle of the dunes with sand between our toes, a romantic moment became ours.

Which Karim Design dress did you choose and how did you know it was the right wedding dress?
I had looked several places ahead of my first fitting at Karim Design and was a bit torn between the pure, classic look and the lighter, more modern look. I had previously fallen in love with Alessa and imagined my dress would be strapless, but then I fell for the beautiful v-necklines that Venzia has. However, I felt a bit too classic and wanted to add some lightness to the dress, and at the same time, I had fallen in love with both a lower part and an upper part. Based on the two originally very different dresses, we created my dream dress, which I tried to illustrate in PowerPoint to the best of my ability – lacking more creative skills. However, that was put to shame when I stood in the dress, which was beyond all expectations – and then we just knew it, my mother, my bridesmaid, and I.
Describe your wedding day look ...
Classic, clean, and natural. It was very important to me that I could recognize myself, and therefore I ended up doing my own makeup while my good friend took care of the hairstyle.

How did you feel in your dress on your wedding day?
I felt like a dream! Solemn and light. Classic and modern. Sensual and understated.
Where did you get married? Tell us about where it took place, the style, the atmosphere on your wedding day.
We were married in St. Luke's Church in Aarhus and afterwards held a fantastic party at Sixth Frederiks Kro in Risskov down by the water. Back where we met and later lived. The atmosphere in the church was both solemn and modern – in line with everything else. The reception was held on the terrace with a view over the water, dinner on the first floor in fine surroundings, and the party in a marquee with space for loud music and colorful lamps. But everywhere was filled with love, laughter, and joy.

What was the most challenging part of the planning?
We lived in London when we got engaged, so the most challenging part was definitely planning from a distance, and we actually booked the venue without having been there or having met with the staff. The other thing I would say was the wedding dress – again challenged by the fact that we were in London and my closest friends I wanted to participate were in Denmark. Normally, it wouldn’t be the biggest problem, but COVID particularly challenged traveling back and forth.
What made your day extra special?
My husband. And all the guests. I think the most overwhelming part was feeling the overwhelming joy and love from everyone around us. Additionally, the Friday before the wedding, we invited our guests for pizza and gin & tonics in a backyard in central Aarhus. This made both of us feel an enormous calm on the actual day and not have to stress about talking to everyone.
The funniest moment of the day was??
There were simply so many. My husband's siblings had filmed what was supposed to be a hidden camera at our home – we were screaming with laughter. My father-in-law shooting a cannon was also priceless, and the evening ended with a girls-vs-boys battle on the dance floor and a trip to the sea. All of it led to many big laughs.

Where did the honeymoon go?
To Greece. Due to my husband's work, it wasn't possible to go on a honeymoon right after the wedding, so we spent a couple of days at my parents' summer house on the west coast. After that, we spent almost two weeks planning the honeymoon, which ended up being a trip to the beautiful islands of Greece with various stops along the way.
