Sophie & Peter's wedding
Where did you meet each other?
We met through a mutual good friend on a summer evening in Copenhagen back in 2012. At that time, neither Peter nor I had intentions of anything other than friendship – but some time later, it developed into an adventure. We barely moved in together before we first moved to Bangkok and then to Liechtenstein.
How did he propose to you?
Peter and I and our two children were supposed to go on vacation to Thailand in March 2020 and visit our friends.
As we stand in the airport on our way to Bangkok, we receive a call from our offices in Liechtenstein informing us that they will shut down due to COVID-19. We make a quick decision and still choose to go to Bangkok for our vacation.
Two days after we arrive at our hotel, Peter gets a call from his work asking us to come home due to the COVID-19 situation. Therefore, we have one evening left in Bangkok before we have to return, and Peter has to change his plans about how he would have proposed.
We are sitting (comically in the wedding suite) at our lovely hotel, after a delicious dinner under the open sky. Both children are sleeping, and Peter has ordered Champagne to the room, which we enjoy while looking at the view over our old town. After some time with good conversations and lots of laughter, Peter gets down on one knee and tells me how much I mean to him and the family we have created together, asking if I want to continue the adventure with him and marry him – in my eyes, this moment could not have been more perfect for us.

Which Karim Design dress did you choose and how did you know it was the right wedding dress?
I had been out trying on many different dresses and designs, including at Karim's.
When I first met Hesam, I felt warmly welcomed and there was a good chemistry, which was also important to me since I live abroad. I had a clear sense of what I wanted, and together we designed the dress. It was a good process, and at no point did I feel that the distance was a challenge. We talked over FaceTime and email, where we found the right lace and created fun personal "secrets" in the dress.
Describe your wedding day look ...
My look… We held a weekend wedding in Italy, and for me, it was important to find a good balance between Danish beautiful quality and the Italian feminine touch. I wanted to feel my personality in the dress and not feel too fancy but more chic. Therefore, we made a dress that was a bit transparent to be sexy, used romantic Italian lace on the top, and completely smooth beautiful silk on the bottom. My long veil was sewn with pearls, which I think gave a soft but beautiful detail to the look.

How did you feel in your dress on your wedding day?
I felt beautiful, sexy, chic, and special in the dress that only I own. The materials we chose made the dress a bit heavy but still comfortable and movable.
Where did you get married? Tell us about where it took place, the style, the atmosphere on your wedding day.
Since we live abroad, the theme for our wedding would be a destination wedding.
We live close to Italy and have a great love for the country. When we spent a 3-week summer vacation in Italy two years ago, we immediately fell in love with the Le Marche area. Our local wedding planner recommended a family-owned wine resort that grows its own wine and vegetables, and focuses on sustainability, which is something we also care about. The venue had all the things we desired, and the surroundings were absolutely fantastic.
The venue is a former small village, where several parts of the original six buildings/houses have been preserved, including a small church. We wanted to hold the wedding outdoors, and since the church was too small to accommodate all of us, Saturday started with an Apero on one side of the church and the actual wedding on the other side of the church.
The ceremony was intimate and touching with live music under a beautiful large oak tree. The trio had learned two Danish melodies that we wanted to sing during the ceremony, and the actual wedding was officiated by my older brother, which made it even more touching. There were not many dry eyes during the ceremony. We wanted to preserve that feeling, as if we were inside a church but with our personal touch. Therefore, in collaboration with our florist and wedding planner, we created the surroundings with flowers and personal input.
This is an experience and memory we will definitely never forget.

What was the most challenging part of the planning?
We have been very lucky to work with several skilled and competent people, who made it easy and primarily fun and cozy to plan. The most challenging part has been the distance and COVID-19, which at times made it difficult to participate physically. We had guests arriving from seven different destinations, and the most nerve-wracking part was whether all the guests could make it, as we were experiencing several changes and cancellations in flight departures at that time. Fortunately, the whole weekend went as it should, and the weather was on our side.
What made your day extra special?
For us, having a weekend wedding in Italy was very special. Being together with our families and friends, whom we don’t see very often – made the weekend completely unforgettable.
On Friday we had a pizza party by a lake and a DJ along with fun contributions from the guests followed by a pool party.
On Sunday we had brunch and relaxation by the pool before most guests had to fly home again.
The funniest moment of the day was??
There are several episodes where we have cried from laughter.
But I think the actual party, where we ended up on stage singing and some of the guests wore the band's outfits, was really fun.
Where did the honeymoon go?
Time will tell ☺
